ABOUT THE GAME
Two of the Conference USA leaders clash Sunday in Houston when the TCU Lady Frogs (14-6, 5-1 C-USA) meet the Houston Lady Cougars (14-4, 5-1 C-USA) in Hofheinz Pavilion at 2 p.m. CST. Both teams fell at Louisville over the weekend for their first and only losses in league play. TCU had a 15-point halftime lead (31-16) against the Cardinals before being outscored by 21 in the second half (47-26). Houston lost by a point, 50-49, after Angel Bradley hit one of two free throws with 3.3 seconds left. The Lady Cougars never managed to get a shot off during the final ticks of the game. TCU and Houston developed a heated rivalry last season after facing one another three times. The Lady Frogs lost 61-59 during the regular season in Fort Worth, Texas, and were dropped 76-71 in Houston in February. UH upended TCU again in the C-USA Tournament championship by an 86-75 score. The TCU-Houston game pits two of the nation's premier post players against one another with the Lady Frogs' Sandora Irvin and the Lady Cougars' Sancho Lyttle. Irvin needs eight blocks to break the NCAA's all-time career record and she is averaging 20.9 points, 12.7 rebounds and 4.6 blocks this season. Lyttle is scoring 20.2 points and grabbing 12.9 boards.
TCU'S LAST TIME OUT
Natasha Lacy scored a career-high 23 points and had six rebounds to lead the TCU Lady Frogs past the Cincinnati Bearcats Sunday, Jan. 23, in Cincinnati by a 68-51 score. Two other Lady Frogs reached double figures on the afternoon. Sandora Irvin racked up 15 points, eight rebounds and rejected six shots. Niki Newton notched her second double-double of the season and her career with 11 points and 11 boards. Lorie Butler-Rayford had six points and seven rebounds off the bench. TCU was a little under 50.0 percent from the field, making 24-of-51 (.471) shot attempts, while Cincinnati went 18-for-54 (.333).
HOUSTON'S LAST TIME OUT
The Houston Lady Cougars suffered their first loss in Conference USA play Sunday, Jan. 23, to the Louisville Cardinals, 50-49, in Kentucky. U of L's Angel Bradley hit one of two free throws with 3.3 seconds left, and the Lady Cougars never managed to get a shot off during the final ticks of the game. Sancho Lyttle had a double-double for UH with 15 points and 12 boards. Daphne Andre was the only other Lady Cougar in double figures with 10. Bradley had 16 points to lead Louisville and Jazz Covington tallied 12. Both teams struggled from the field, with Houston making 34.7 percent (17-of-49) of its shots and Louisville 34.5 percent (19-of-55). U of L out-rebounded UH 38-33.
