FORT WORTH -- TCU has announced that men's tennis junior Facundo Lugones and women's basketball senior Latricia Lovings are its Muscle Milk Athletes of the Week on Tuesday for their recent performances.
Lugones remained unbeatable this spring by winning the singles title at the NCTC Collegiate Classic in Indian Wells, Calif., on Sunday. He topped San Diego's Uros Petronijevic 6-4, 6-2 in the final round. On Saturday, the Buenos Aires, Argentina, native defeated Pedro Leme of Pepperdine 4-6, 6-5 (4), 6-4 in the semifinals and N.C. State's Parker McGuiness 1-6, 6-5 (6), 6-2. Lugones, ranked No. 118 in the country, earned a bye for the opening rounds on Friday.
The No. 39 Horned Frogs will return to action Saturday, this time going to the Atlantic coast for the ITA National Kick-Off in Gainesville, Fla. TCU will play Florida State on the opening day and either Florida or UNC Wilmington on Sunday.
Lovings once again proved she is one of the best defensive players in the nation, recording seven blocks while also adding 10 points in TCU's historic 54-48 win over Texas on Sunday. It was the Horned Frogs' first victory over the Longhorns in school history. The Paschal High graduate now has 177 blocks since the start of the 2012-13 season, marking the most in the nation.
Lovings has 266 blocks in her TCU career and leads the Big 12 with 3.8 per game. The Horned Frogs will take the week off before playing at Oklahoma on Saturday at 7 p.m.
