March 15, 2002
DURHAM, N.C. (AP) - Kati Safaritova scored 12 points as eighth-seeded TCU used a dominating defense to beat ninth-seeded Indiana 55-45 in the East Regional on Friday.
The Lady Frogs (24-6) advanced to the second round, where they will face the winner of Friday's game between top-seeded Duke and 16th-seeded Norfolk State on Sunday.
Indiana (17-14), making its first NCAA tournament appearance since 1995, shot just 24 percent and committed 20 turnovers. The Lady Frogs also blocked six shots, four by Safaritova.
When the Hoosiers found an opening, they couldn't finish, going 3-for-17 from 3-point range and missing several shots inside the paint.
Indiana's Erin McGinnis had 13 points, and Jill Chapman - who came into the game averaging 16 points - finished with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
