Brian Ostermann is entering his fourth season as associate head coach for the TCU women's basketball program after previously serving as head men's basketball coach at Missouri State-West Plains for four seasons. In addition to his duties as a coach, Ostermann's roles on head coach Jeff Mittie's staff include scheduling, academic mentoring, recruiting evaluation and gameplan preparation and development.

Ostermann has experienced three highly successful campaigns in his first three seasons on the TCU campus, including three-straight postseason appearances. The Frogs advanced to the NCAA Tournament two out of the three years and are one of only 20 teams in the nation to record nine NCAA berths in the last decade. The squad has also broke into the national polls both years, peaking at No. 19 in the Associated Press Top 25 in 2008-09 and No. 20 in 2009-10.

In 2010-11, the Frogs were once again among the nation's best, reaching the 22-win plateau for the seventh time in program history, while also becoming the first team in Mountain West Conference history with at least 11 league wins and a top 3 finish in each of the last six seasons. The Frogs, who also advanced to the MWC Tournament finals for the first time in program history, became only the second team in the state of Texas to play in 11-straight postseason appearances.

Individually, it was another banner year for Ostermann's group as sophomore Starr Crawford was the conference's leading rebounder.Crawford collected second-team all-conference accolades as well as all-defensive team honors. She closed the season ranking No. 36 overall in the NCAA in rebounds per gameafter being one of only two players in the conference to record five double-doubles during conference play.Crawford was the only Mountain West Conference player to average double-digits in points per game (12.7) and double-digits in boards per contest (10.0) during MWC play.

The Frogs continued their successful string of seasons in 2009-10, as Ostermann helped the squad earn its first Mountain West Conference championship. The team, which reached the 22-win plateau for the sixth time in program history, posted a 12-4 record in MWC while becoming the only MWC team with at least 11 league wins and a top-3 finish in each of the last five seasons.

TCU experienced several milestones during its conference championship season, highlighted by a perfect 15-0 home record at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum--the first undefeated home slate in program history. Overall, the team will bring a school-record 22-game home winning streak into 2010-11 that ranks No. 5 nationally.

In addition to the team's successful 2009-10 performance several Frogs stood out individually, including freshman forward Starr Crawford, who Ostermann helped guide to one of the top freshman seasons in school history. Crawford, an All-MWC honorable-mention performer, averaged just under a double-double and led TCU with 274 rebounds, a total that ranked fifth in Frog single-season history. Her 9.8-point scoring average was the best for a TCU freshman since former All-American Sandora Irvin's 10.8-point average in 2001-02.

The Frogs posted a 20-11 in Ostermann's first season on campus with a third-place finish in the MWC standings. Highlighting the season were a pair of victories over teams that at the time were ranked No. 3 in the national polls in Maryland and Cal. The victory over Cal also ended the Golden Bears' 33-game home non-conference winning streak. The two wins helped TCU return to the NCAA Tournament following a one-year absence.

A native of Good Thunder, Minn., Ostermann has logged 22 years experience as a coach at the collegiate level, including nine seasons as a head coach. He ran the Missouri State-West Plains men's program for four seasons from 2004-05 through 2007-08, leading the Grizzlies to at least 20 wins in each of his final three campaigns. He posted an 83-46 record in four seasons with the program to move his career won-loss record to a mark of 178-107.

Ostermann's final season in West Plains saw his Grizzly squad tie the program's best-ever record at 27-5 in addition to reaching the championship round of the National Junior College Athletics Association (NJCAA) Region 16 Championship Tournament. It marked the second time in three seasons of reaching the regional final for the Grizzlies, who finished the season ranked No. 18 in the NJCAA poll after peaking at No. 10 at one point in the season.

Missouri State-West Plains began its string of 20-win seasons in Ostermann's second year on campus with a 20-13 record in 2005-06. Among the victory total were five wins over teams that were ranked at one time in the NJCAA top 10, including eventual NJCAA national champion Arkansas-Fort Smith. Tyrone Brazelton, who would later help Western Kentucky reach the Sweet 16 of the 2008 NCAA Tournament, was named Region 16 Player of the Year and a first-team All-American in his final season as a Grizzly.

Ostermann's squad followed up its breakthrough season with a 20-12 record and fourth-place finish in the Region 16 standings in 2006-07.

Including Brazelton, Ostermann helped a group of 26 junior college players advance on to NCAA Division I careers, headlined by Justin Williams, the 2005-06 Mountain West Conference Defensive Player of the Year at Wyoming, and Paul Carter, who currently plays for Minnesota. Seven of the former players have even gone on to play in the professional ranks.

Prior to his appointment at West Plains, Ostermann spent five seasons as head coach at Colby (Kan.) Community College, where he helped turn the Trojan program into one of the top squads in the Jayhawk Conference. The school's all-time leader in career victories, Ostermann posted a 95-61 record during his time with the Trojans.

Ostermann was an accomplished assistant coach before moving into the head coach's role, holding positions at UMKC (1996-99), Missouri Western (1992-96) and Mercyhurst College (1991-92). His first season at Missouri Western was spent as an assistant for both the men's and women's team. That season marked Mittie's first season as head coach of the Griffon women's program. One of Ostermann's early achievements included the successful recruitment of two-time All-American Tonya Foster to Missouri Western.

Ostermann began his coaching career as a graduate assistant coach at Northwest Missouri State University (1989-91) after graduating from Wisconsin La Crosse in 1988. He and his wife, Julie, have four children: Robbie (13), John (11), Allie (8) and Emily (8).
