Men's tennis inks Emanu Brighiu
Dec. 19, 2007
FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU men's tennis head coach Dave Borelli announced the signing of Emanu Brighiu on Monday. Brighiu will join the Purple and White for the 2008 spring season.
"I felt that we had a great recruiting class for this year with just the kids we brought in this September," said Borelli. "By getting 'Brighi' for January, it clearly put this year's class in the top five or 10 nationally in recruiting.
"This young man is a great talent and has been a bit overlooked on everyone's radar because he really hasn't had a chance to play a lot of events these past two years, but believe me, he can play. He's 6'4, has a big serve, and plays a hard court game."
Brighiu, a native of Iasi, Romania, achieved a career-high ITF Juniors world singles ranking of No. 58 during the 2005-06 season. Brighiu has won the Romanian Men's National Doubles Championship four times and has earned a career-high ATP men's singles ranking of No. 1202. Brighiu hails from the same hometown as current TCU senior Cosmin Cotet.
"With this group of kids, our team is going to be very solid in every singles position," remarked Borelli. "Moreover, with 'Brighi' in the mix, I also feel that we can now play with any team in the country in doubles."
