Sestini Earns C-USA Men's Tennis Athlete of the Month Award
Nov. 3, 2004 FORT WORTH, Texas TCU's Fabrizio Sestini was named the Conference USA Co-Men's Tennis Athlete of the Month, the league office announced Wednesday. It marks the third consecutive time Sestini has won the monthly accolade dating back to last year. He shared honors this month with Slavko Radman from Louisville. Overall, TCU has won at least a share of the award four straight times beginning in fall 2003. Sestini recorded a 5-2 record in singles during October and was 5-3 in doubles with Rafael Abreu. He competed at the Icy Hot/ITA All-American Championships, where he reached the round of 32 in singles in the main draw. Sestini had to win three matches in qualifying before receiving a spot in the main draw. During his run, the 73rd-ranked Frog defeated No. 89 Matic Omerzel from Georgia and upset No. 41 Jamil Al-Agba from Southern California. In doubles at the ITA All-American, Sestini and Abreu, who are ranked eighth this fall, fell in the first round of the main draw. The duo did, however, manage to pick up a victory against No. 20-ranked Peter Rodrigues and Jonathan Stokke from Duke in the quarterfinals of consolation play. Sestini reached the round of 32 in singles at the Wilson/ITA South Central Regional Championships, going 1-1 at the tournament. He and Abreu made it to the championship match in doubles, but were defeated by Lars Poerschke and Matija Zgaga from Baylor. Sestini and Abreu begin play in the ITA Intercollegiate Indoor Championships Thursday in Ann Arbor, Mich. They face a duo from the College of Santa Fe in the first round.
