TCU freshman Alex Panayides won the singles consolation title on Saturday

SAN ANTONIO -TCU men's tennis player Alex Panayides won two matches on Saturday at the UTSA Invitational to claim the singles consolation white draw title. Panayides and Caleb Bulls also reached the doubles consolation final on Saturday.

Panayides, a freshman from Wesley Chapel, Fla., defeated Monterrey Tech's Celaya 6-3, 3-6, (10-8) in the semifinals before knocking off Louisiana-Lafayette's Martins by a score of 6-0, 6-7, (10-6) in the consolation championship.

Bulls also competed in singles play on Saturday, falling to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Langford 6-2, 6-3.

Bulls and Panayides had an impressive showing in doubles action, defeating Phiri and Cybert of Tyler Junior College, 8-5, in the doubles consolation blue draw to advance to the championship round. The TCU duo would fall to UTSA's Fernandes and Moreires 8-6 in the finals.

The TCU netters will return to the courts on Oct. 14-16 for the Racquet Club Invitational in Midland, Texas.
