TCU's Fabrizio Sestini was named the Conference USA Athlete of the Month, the league office announced Wednesday. It marks the second time in Sestini's career he has won the monthly accolade. The Rome, Italy, native earned the recognition in October 2003 following he and Rafael Abreu's doubles title at the ITA South Central Regional Championship.
Sestini recorded a 4-1 record in singles during September and was 4-0 in doubles with Abreu. He competed at the Baylor Intercollegiate, where he reached the semis in singles and won the doubles crown. During his run in singles, Sestini upset No. 47 Jeremy Blandin from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in straight sets. Sestini and Abreu defeated a duo from Texas-Arlington in the doubles title match.
Sestini is TCU's lone ranked player in singles this fall at No. 73. He and Abreu are rated No. 8 in doubles. Sestini will compete in the main draw of singles and doubles in the Icy Hot/ITA All-American Championships starting Thursday, Oct. 7, at the Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tenn.
