TCU men gear up for ITA All-American
Sept. 27, 2007
FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU men's tennis team will compete in their second tournament of the fall starting on Saturday at the Polo Ralph Lauren Men's All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla. The tournament will be played at the University of Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
The Horned Frogs had an impressive start to the 2007-08 season last weekend at the Baylor Intercollegiate, as three TCU newcomers all made stellar debuts. Casey Powers led the Frogs, winning four matches in straight sets to advance to the semifinals of the singles "B" draw. Zach Nichols advanced to the singles quarterfinals, with notable wins over No. 61 Dominik Mueller of Baylor and No. 72 Milan Mihailovic of Texas. Adrian Simon won his first two matches, including an upset of No. 60 Thomas Liversage of San Diego.
Cosmin Cotet will see his first action of the season, as the TCU senior will compete in the singles qualifying draw beginning on Monday. Cotet, currently ranked No. 54 in singles play, missed the season-opening tournament because he was competing in the main draw of the USA F23 Futures tournament.
The No. 22 ranked duo of Brink and Cotet will begin action in the doubles qualifying draw on Tuesday. Last season, the tandem went 16-4 at the No. 1 position and ended the year ranked No. 44.
Cotet highlighted action at the Championships last season, winning five consecutive matches to advance from the prequalifying draw and come within one match of the main draw.
