DECATUR, Ill. – TCU sophomore Nick Chappell picked up the biggest win of his already successful summer Thursday in the second round of the Ursula Beck Pro Tennis Classic, a USTA Pro Circuit Event.
Chappell took down Marcelo Arevalo, the top seed at the event, 6-3, 6-3. Arevalo is the 416th-ranked singles player in the world and recently turned professional after spending two years at the University of Tulsa.
“This is a big, big win for Nick,” TCU coach David Roditi said. “It shows how much he's improved during his freshman year at TCU. His hard work are the payoff.”
The win marks the second time in as many events that Chappell, an Indianapolis, Ind., native has advanced past the second round of a USTA Pro Circuit Event. He earned another ATP point toward his world singles ranking.
