FORT WORTH, Texas -- TCU's Alex Menichini and Fabrizio Sestini were honored as members of the Conference USA Men's Tennis All-Decade Team on Tuesday. Menichini played for Fresno State his freshman year in 2000-01 before transferring to TCU for his final three years. Sestini is a senior on the Horned Frog tennis team this season.
Menichini was selected to the C-USA First Team in 2003 and 2004. He earned a C-USA Sportsmanship Award as a senior and along with Jacob Martin was named Doubles Team of the Championship the same year. A native of Calabasas, Calif., Menichini achieved a career-high singles ranking of 22nd during spring 2004, and he became the first TCU player since Trace Fielding in 2001 to compete in the NCAA Singles Championship.
Sestini was a late addition to TCU for the 2001-02 academic year, arriving in mid-January. He went on to earn C-USA Freshman of the Year accolades and snagged a spot on the All-Conference Second Team. Sestini was a second-team performer his sophomore and junior years as well. The Rome, Italy, native is enjoying his most productive season in 2004-05, ascending as high as 20th in the singles rankings and eighth in doubles with Rafael Abreu. His current rankings of 27th and 14th are tops among C-USA competitors.
