March 29, 2007
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The No. 74 TCU men's tennis team will open Mountain West Conference play on Friday against Utah at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif. The Frogs will meet No. 69 BYU on Saturday, followed by Sunday's match against No. 52 San Diego State.
The Horned Frogs (4-9) are coming off of a 6-1 loss to No. 33 Texas A&M on Tuesday, while Utah (10-6) most recently fell to No. 75 San Diego by a score of 5-1. BYU (9-9) fell 6-1 to No. 70 Santa Clara on Tuesday and San Diego State (9-6) defeated No. 38 California, 4-3, on Sunday.
Zach Ganger of Utah is the highest ranked singles player in the conference at No. 51, followed by San Diego State's Marcus Dickhardt (No. 52) and Christian Groh (No. 92), and BYU's James Ludlow (No. 105). The Aztec duo of Dickhardt and Groh is also ranked No. 17 in doubles play.
TCU and Utah have only met three times on the court dating back to 1996, as the Frogs have won all three matches, including a 6-1 decision last season in Salt Lake City, Utah. TCU has also never lost to BYU, as the two schools have met five times dating back to 1989, including two meetings last season. The Frogs hold a 3-1 advantage over San Diego State, as TCU fell in the regular season last year, but triumphed 4-1 in the Mountain West Conference Championship.
