FORT WORTH – TCU and SMU will renew their rivalry for the 55th time Friday when the Mustangs visit the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. First serve is set for 5:30 p.m.
No. 51-ranked TCU is 7-4 overall, with all of its losses coming to top-20 ranked opponents. The Mustangs are 2-4 and have won back-to-back matches after dropping four straight to open the year.
The Horned Frogs have faced SMU more times than any other program in their history. SMU holds a slight 28-26 edge in the all-time series, but TCU has won three of the last four. The former Southwest Conference rivals have played at least once every year since 1974.
Senior Orlando Superlano has led the Frogs in singles this spring, racking up an 8-2 record. Sophomore Arnau Dachs, ranked 108th in the ITA singles rankings, is 7-3 on the year, while sophomore Facundo Lugones has a 6-3 mark.
TCU’s top doubles duo of Nick Chappell and Will Stein picked up their biggest win of the season against Pepperdine on Tuesday to improve their season mark to 7-3. Max Stevens and JT Sundling are 4-5, while Dachs and Superlano are 4-3.
Fans will have a unique opportunity to win cash prizes at Friday’s match, as the first 500 fans will receive a tennis ball to be thrown at a target on the court following the match. As always, free pizza from Buffalo Bros. will be available for all fans in attendance.
