Men's tennis to host No. 70 Denver and No. 15 LSU
Feb. 23, 2006 FORT WORTH, Texas - After posting back-to-back wins against higher-ranked opponents in No. 23 Texas Tech and No. 30 San Diego, the TCU men's tennis team returns to action on Friday to take on No. 70 Denver and No. 15 LSU on Sunday. Ranked No. 32 in this week's ITA polls, the Frogs boast their highest ranking of the 2006 season. The team is off to a 4-0 start for the second time in three seasons and looks to continue its success at home under head coach Joey Rivé, who is 53-14 (.791) at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. On Friday, TCU posted a convincing 6-1 victory over Texas Tech. The Frogs won two-of-three doubles matches and five-of-six singles for the victory. With the win, the Frogs improved to 29-2 all-time versus the Red Raiders. TCU followed with a 4-1 win over San Diego on Sunday. Junior Radu Barbu led the way for the Frogs with wins in singles and doubles play. The Frogs now hold a perfect 4-0 record in the all-time series. Denver (5-2) comes into the weekend winning its last four matches. The Pioneers and Frogs have never met on the courts. LSU comes into the match with a record of 7-2 and has won its last two matches. The Tigers are 13-5 in a series that dates back to 1975. In the last meeting between the two institutions in May 2002, LSU defeated TCU 4-0 at the NCAA Regional Championships in College Station, Texas. Match time for Friday is scheduled for 6 p.m., while Sunday's competition is slated to begin at noon.
