FORT WORTH, Texas - The No. 47 TCU men's tennis team will welcome in-state foe No. 14 Texas A&M to the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center Wednesday. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
TCU (2-3) will look to get back into the win column after dropping a 6-1 decision at the hands of No. 9 Baylor on Feb. 12 in Waco. Junior Daniel Sanchez has been on a roll as of late, winning back-to-back matches against Alabama and Baylor from the No. 6 spot. The Purple and White’s nationally-ranked doubles tandem of Emanuel Brighiu and Christopher Price are 4-1 overall this season, helping TCU to take the doubles point in all but one match.
The Aggies (6-3) come into Wednesday’s match after toppling No. 13 Texas Tech, 4-1, at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Seattle Sunday. TAMU’s roster has four doubles combinations listed in the top-70 in latest ITA national rankings, highlighted by the No. 1 ranked doubles duo in the country in seniors Jeff Dadamo and Austin Krajicek. The Aggies also boast three singles players in the nation’s top-125 in No. 29 Krajicek, No. 49 Dadamo and No. 121 Alexis Klegou.
Last season, TCU’s team of Brighiu and Price picked up their highest-ever ranked win at College Station, upending third-ranked Krajicek and Dadamo, 9-7.
The Frogs have the upper hand in the all-time series against the TAMU, owning a 34-15 overall record between the two storied programs. In a series that started in 1974, TCU has enjoyed a pair of 12-match winning streaks and a 12-5 record at home against the Aggies.
Admission is free for all TCU tennis matches at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. The TCU men’s and women’s tennis programs have free pizza at every home match, courtesy of Mama’s Pizza, while supplies last. Visitors also have the chance to win prizes between doubles and singles action from Yogi’s Bagel Cafe Wednesday. TCU’s players and coaches will be available to sign autographs after the conclusion of the match.
