FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU men's tennis team will wrap-up its four-match road swing in Southeastern Conference territory this weekend, traveling to Mississippi State (Feb. 3) and Alabama (Feb. 5).
The Frogs (1-2) opened the season on Jan. 25 with a 4-2 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi indoors at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center, but dropped a pair of matches to No. 4 Georgia and No. 39 Nebraska last weekend as part of the 2012 ITA Kick-Off Weekend. TCU played four freshmen and a sophomore in the loss to the Cornhuskers.
MSU (4-2) is currently listed as the No. 14 team in the country in the latest Campbell’s/ITA Team Rankings. The Bulldogs also took part in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, earning a 4-0 win over No. 63 Princeton before dropping a 4-3 decision to host No. 11 Texas A&M. Friday’s match will serve as MSU’s home opener at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre.
No. 49 Alabama (1-2) returns home after splitting a pair of matches in Los Angeles, Calif., as part of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend. The Tide opened the weekend with a 4-0 loss to No. 9 UCLA before picking up a 4-1 victory over No. 40 UC-Irvine. While Alabama has three players nationally-ranked in the most recent ITA listing, unranked junior Jarryd Botha is the only player with more than one singles win this spring, boasting a 2-1 record from the No. 1 position.
The Frogs will return home to the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center to host future Big 12 opponent Texas Tech on Feb. 11. Live music from Andrew Sullivan and free tacos courtesy of Salsa Limon begins at Noon. First serve for the match is set for 1 p.m.
