FORT WORTH – TCU’s men’s tennis team returns to action this weekend for its first home matches of the season when UT Arlington and UTSA visit the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
First set against UT Arlington is set for Friday at 5:30 p.m., inside the indoor facility of the Friedman Tennis Center. TCU squares off with UTSA at 1 p.m., on Saturday. TCU is 1-1 on the year, while the Mavericks and Roadrunners are both playing their first matches of the year.
The 67th-ranked Horned Frogs, who are making their first appearance in the team rankings this week, are coming off a split last Saturday in Michigan, picking up a 5-2 win at Detroit in the morning before dropping a tough 4-3 decision at No. 20 Michigan in the evening.
Three Frogs, Rodolfo Bustamante, Arnau Dachs and Facundo Lugones, are 2-0 on the year in singles with Dachs picking up wins at Nos. 1 and 2 singles. Against Michigan, the 100th-ranked Dachs knocked off No. 48 Vlad Stefan.
TCU and UTA have faced each other 20 times dating back to 1964, with TCU holding a 19-1 all-time advantage. The Frogs have won 13-straight matches in the series, including a 5-2 win in Arlington a year ago. The Frogs are 2-0 all-time against UTSA and picked up a 4-3 decision in their last meeting in 2009.
Free pizza from Buffalo Bros. will be available for fans at Friday and Saturday’s matches, as will tacos from Salsa Limon for Friday’s match. Fans will also have the opportunity to win prizes on the prize court between singles and doubles.
