FORT WORTH – TCU’s men’s tennis team kicks off its 40th season Saturday when it travels to the Great Lakes State for a doubleheader against Detroit and Michigan.
TCU faces UDM at 7 a.m. CST at the Franklin Athletic Club in Southfield, Mich., before making the trek to Ann Arbor to take on 20th-ranked Michigan at 5 p.m. CST. UDM is 0-2 on the year, while Michigan has yet to play a match.
Saturday morning’s matchup will be the first all-time between the Horned Frogs and Titans, while TCU is 3-0 in its history against the Wolverines. TCU last faced Michigan in 2000, a 4-0 win in Fort Worth.
The Frogs begin the season with a crop of new faces that enjoyed success during the fall season. Sophomore Arnau Dachs captured the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational in his first event as a Frog and enters the spring ranked No. 100 in the ITA singles rankings.
Junior Rodolfo Bustamante also had a strong fall, while senior Orlando Superlano returned to the lineup after a season-ending knee injury in the spring 2012 season opener.
Nick Chappell, last year’s Mountain West Freshman of the Year, and JT Sundling, along with JT Sundling, are TCU’s top returners who gained invaluable experience playing at the top of the TCU lineup in 2012.
Michigan’s Vlad Stefan is the No. 48-ranked player in the ITA singles rankings, while Evan King and Shaun Bernstein make up the nation’s No. 30-ranked doubles tandem.
