FORT WORTH – TCU’s men’s tennis team brought the fall portion of its schedule to a close Sunday at the Southwest Conference Shootout on the courts of the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
The Horned Frogs had a strong showing in singles, capturing wins in seven of their eight matches. TCU’s showing was highlighted by the action in the A Draw and B Draw.
In A singles, freshman Nick Chappell took home third-place honors after he knocked off Texas Tech’s Rafael Garcia, 6-1, 6-2. Orlando Superlano added a win in the consolation championship match of that draw when he took down Rice’s Peter Frank, 6-2, 6-1.
JT Sundling won the B singles draw by way of his third win of the weekend. Sundling dropped Ben Chen of Texas, 6-3, 6-2. Daniel Sanchez won 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 over Rice’s Jonathan Chang in the B draw’s third-place match.
Paul Chappell was the consolation winner in the C singles draw, claiming a 6-4, 6-3 triumph over UTA’s David Subirats.
Will Stein won the third-place match of the D singles draw with a 0-6, 6-3, 6-4 dismissal of Rice’s Andy Wang. TCU’s Blake Wiggins won the consolation draw in that bracket with his 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 win over Nicholas Moreno of UTA.
In doubles, Sanchez and Superlano knocked off their teammates, Nick Chappell and Sundling, 8-5 in the third-place match of the A draw.
