MANSFIELD, Texas – TCU sophomore Nick Chappell advanced Tuesday to the main draw of the Futures of Mansfield $15,000, a USTA Pro Circuit Event.
Chappell won his third match in two days and will continue action in the main draw Wednesday. In the first round, Chappell dispatched Harry Fowler, 6-4, 6-2, before dropping Thomas Pura, 6-4, 6-0 in the second round.
The Indianapolis native was tested in the final round of qualifying after dropping the first set, but was able to come back for a 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 win over Andrew Carter to clinch one of eight qualifying spots in the main draw.
Chappell faces Russia’s Dmitriy Minkin tomorrow in the first round of the main draw. Minkin earned his spot in the draw via a wild card.
