TCU Gets Back On Track With Blanking of Air Force

FORT WORTH – TCU’s men’s tennis team got back into the win column Sunday with a 7-0 win over Air Force at the indoor facility of the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
The Horned Frogs improved to 7-13 overall and 2-2 in Mountain West play, while snapping a two-match skid. Air Force dropped to 9-12 and 0-5 in the league.
Max Stevens and Blake Wiggins got TCU off on the right foot with an 8-2 win over Joey Brandt and Steven Young at No. 3 doubles. Facundo Lugones and JT Sundling put the Frogs ahead 1-0 with an 8-5 dismissal of Alex Grubbs and Andy Jackson.
As singles got underway, Lugones was once again the first off the courts for TCU, grabbing a 6-0, 6-3 win over Andy Lineberry to give TCU a 2-0 advantage. Stein followed suit with a 6-2, 6-0 triumph over Young at No. 4 singles.
Chappell clinched the match for the Frogs when he dismantled Wilhelm, 6-2, 6-2 at the top court. Sundling continued the Frog onslaught with a 4-6, 6-0, 1-0 (2) downing of Alex Grubbs. His win made it 5-0 in favor of the home team.
Stevens added a 6-4, 0-6, 6-4 decision to push the advantage to 6-0, while Blake Wiggins added the seventh and final point, a 6-2, 6-4 win over Grant Taylor.
TCU returns to action Tuesday when it travels to Dallas for a matchup with SMU. First serve is set for 5:30 p.m.
