No. 33 TCU men's tennis defeats Utah, 6-1

SALT LAKE CITY - The 33rd-ranked TCU men's tennis team captured a 6-1 victory over 56th-ranked Utah in the first of a three-match road swing. With the win, the Frogs improved to 13-8 overall and 4-0 in Mountain West Conference play.
TCU swept the doubles competition to head into singles play with a 1-0 lead. The 48th-ranked tandem of Rafael Abreu and Jordan Freitas grabbed an 8-5 victory at No. 1 over Zach Ganger and Nick Coutts.
Senior Jacopo Tezza and freshman Kriegler Brink posted a decisive 8-0 victory versus Tomasz Grzyb and Jason Yap at No. 2. Junior Radu Barbu and sophomore Cosmin Cotet finished off the sweep with an 8-3 triumph on court No. 3.
Abreu, ranked 96th in the ITA singles poll, won for the fourth time in five matches with a 6-3, 7-5 score versus Ganger at No. 1.
No. 40 Andrei Mlendea recorded a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 2 over Gryzb for his 12th win of the season.
Cotet downed Wes Hancock 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4 and Barbu picked up his second victory of the match with a 6-3, 6-1 decision versus Yap at No. 5
Freitas cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 6 for his 11th win of the spring.
The Frogs return to action on Saturday at 9 a.m. (CST) for a showdown with No. 58 UNLV.
