No. 45 Wisconsin tops TCU, 5-2
April 3, 2007
FORT WORTH, Texas - Forced indoors after a 1 hour and 35-minute delay due to rain, the TCU men's tennis team fell to No. 45 Wisconsin 5-2 on Tuesday night at the TCU indoor tennis facility.
The loss dropped TCU to 6-11 overall, while improving the Badgers to 10-8 on the season.
In doubles play, TCU was able to record the first win with an 8-1 victory in the No. 1 doubles match by the No. 23 duo of Kriegler Brink and Cosmin Cotet. However, the win by Brink and Cotet over Wisconsin's duo of Baumann and Kasarov was not enough, as the Badgers took the Nos. 2 and 3 matches to secure the doubles point.
The match was halted at 6:15 p.m. - just five games into doubles action - and did not resume until 7:50 p.m.
Barbu got the Frogs on the board early in singles play with a 6-2, 6-1 defeat of Kasarov at the No. 4 position to even the score at one point each. The win was Barbu's fourth consecutive victory. The Badgers then recorded wins at courts No. 1, No. 3 and No. 5, respectively, to clinch the win.
Biro would go on to highlight play for the Frogs with a victory over No. 111 Jeremy Sonkin in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. The win marked the second match in a row that Biro has defeated a nationally ranked opponent.
The men will return to action on April 10 when they travel to Houston, Texas, to face No. 24 Rice.
