No. 71 TCU takes first match against Abilene Christian, 5-0
March 17, 2007 FORT WORTH, Texas -The No. 71 TCU men's tennis team won the first match of the day against Abilene Christian, 5-0, at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. TCU will host Wichita State at 6 p.m. today.
The win snapped TCU's eight-game losing streak, boosting the Frogs' record to 2-8. Abilene Christian fell to 12-4.
The doubles portion of the match started with the TCU duo of Christopher Biro and Caleb Bulls defeating Abilene Christian's Kevin Beedy and Luke Hawk, 8-5. After being down 5-2 at doubles No. 2, the TCU pair of Radu Barbu and Andrew Ulrich rallied to defeat Juan Nunez and Ryan Hudson, 9-7, to clinch the doubles point. Kriegler Brink and Cosmin Cotet completed the sweep as the Frog duo downed George Carstens and Bryce Hicks, 8-5.
Cotet started singles action with a 6-2, 6-1 defeat of Nunez at the No. 2 slot. Barbu quickly followed, defeating Hicks, 6-3, 6-0, to put TCU up 3-0. Biro clinched the match for the Frogs, downing Carstens at the No. 1 position, 6-1, 6-4. Stuart Row gave TCU the 5-0 lead as the junior defeated Hawk, 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 6 slot.
