Horned Frogs Lose to No. 19 Pepperdine, 4-0

BERKELEY, Calif. -- The 22nd-ranked TCU men's tennis team lost its third match in a row Saturday to No. 19 Pepperdine, 4-0, in Berkeley, Calif. The Horned Frogs dropped to 5-4 on the year with the loss, while the Waves upped their record to 9-2. TCU won only one of the three doubles matches to fall behind early, 1-0. Rafael Abreu and Fabrizio Sestini, rated No. 13 in the nation, picked up the Frogs' lone victory at the top slot against No. 16 Scott Doerner and Pedro Rico, 8-5. Kevin Borzenski and Richard Johnson clinched the point for Pepperdine by downing Jordan Freitas and Jacob Martin at the third position by an 8-6 score. Ivor Lovrak put the Waves ahead 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph at five singles over Martin. Johnson was Pepperdine's next winner, beating Freitas by scores of 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 4 hole. Rico, ranked 17th in singles, put the match in the books with a 6-3, 7-6(6) victory at two singles versus Jacopo Tezza. The remaining matches at one, three and six singles were suspended in third sets once Pepperdine secured the win. Sestini was up 1-0, Radu Barbu was tied 1-1 and Abreu trailed 4-0. TCU returns to action March 16 when it hosts No. 5 Duke at noon CST. The match will be played on the Bernard J. "Tut" Bartzen Varsity Tennis Courts at the Bayard H.
