No. 5 TCU Men's Tennis Snags 4-2 Win Over No. 28 Washington

The fifth-ranked TCU men's tennis squad moved to 10-0 Sunday thanks to a 4-2 triumph over No. 28 Washington at the Arizona State Quadrangle in Tempe. The Horned Frogs take on No. 18 Pepperdine for the title in the quad Monday at 10:30 a.m. CST. The Waves advanced with a 4-1 victory over the host Sun Devils. Washington (8-5) and ASU will meet at 2:30 p.m. CST in the third-place match.
The Horned Frogs lost the doubles point for the first time this season, falling at the Nos. 1 and 2 positions. UW's Alex Slovic and Nick Weiss downed Hector Almada and Jacopo Tezza at two, 8-6, and Daniel Chu and Alex Vlaski snatched an 8-5 decision from the 10th-ranked duo of Rafael Abreu and Fabrizio Sestini. Jacob Martin and Alex Menichini did not finish their match at three with the Huskies' Christoph Palmanshofer and Pete Scharler.
Sestini evened things up at one apiece when he made short work of Chu at three singles, 6-1, 6-2. Martin put TCU ahead when he defeated Chris Floyd at the No. 6 spot, 6-4, 6-2. Vlaski, the nation's No. 3-ranked player, deadlocked the match for a second time when he took out No. 22 Menichini at one, 6-3, 6-2. Vlaski is 12-2 against ranked players this season.
The Frogs' two sophomores, Abreu and Tezza, came to TCU's aid and provided the final two victories. Abreu dispatched Scharler at five singles in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, and Tezza secured the victory with a 7-6, 6-3 decision against Palmanshofer at four. Almada did not finish his match at three with No. 80 Slovic.
