Men's tennis blanked by No. 4 Baylor, 7-0
March 4, 2007 WACO, Texas - The No. 56 TCU men's tennis team fell 7-0 to No. 4 Baylor on Sunday at the Baylor Tennis Center in Waco, Texas. With the loss, the Frogs dropped to 1-4 overall, while Baylor improved to 11-2 on the season.
"We were in three matches today that I thought we could've won," said TCU head coach Dave Borelli. "We played well in certain matches today and in others we didn't."
The Bears cruised through the doubles event, winning all three matches. Lars Poerschke and Denes Lukacs recorded the first win by a score of 8-1 over the duo of Andrew Ulrich and Stuart Row. Baylor clinched the doubles point when the No. 50 tandem of Michal Kokta and Dominik Mueller downed Chris Biro and Caleb Bulls 8-2 in the No. 3 slot. The team of David Galic and Matija Zgaga went on to defeat Cosmin Cotet and Kriegler Brink 8-4.
Baylor went up 2-0 in the match when No. 25 Kokta defeated Cotet in the No. 1 slot, 6-3, 4-0, ret. No. 100 Zgaga downed Ulrich in the No. 4 position, 6-1, 6-4, while Lukacs clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-3 defeat of Caleb Bulls.
Attila Bucko of Baylor pushed the score to 5-0 with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Stuart Row, while Chris Biro fell in a tough match, 7-6(2), 6-0, to No. 28 Poerschke. Brink highlighted action for the second consecutive match, winning a set in a tough loss of 6-7(4), 6-4, 10-4.
The Frogs will return to action on Wednesday for their first home match since Feb. 11 to face No. 42 SMU at 6 p.m.
