TULSA, Okla. -- The 20th-ranked TCU men's tennis team (2-2) was upset by No. 50 Tulsa (9-3) Saturday evening at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma by a 5-2 score. TCU freshmen Fabrizio Sestini and Daniel Scholten picked up the Frogs' only two victories on the night with Sestini upsetting No. 79 Dane McGregor at two singles 7-5, 7-5, while Scholten defeated Dustin Taylor 6-3, 6-4 at five singles to remain perfect on the season at 9-0.
TCU dug themselves in an early hole as they lost the doubles point. The Horned Frogs are now 0-2 this season when losing the doubles point. Their other loss was to then-No. 8 SMU in their home and season-opener on January 30 by a 4-3 score.
In singles, the Golden Hurricane picked up straight set victories at one and four. The match was ultimately decided at three and six singles, where Tulsa's Ryan Livesay and Shri Sudhakara defeated 82nd-ranked senior Daniel Wajnberg and freshman Jacob Martin in two grueling, three set matches. Sudhakara's win clinched the match for the Golden Hurricane.
"It was a tough match," said TCU head coach Joey Rivé after the match. "We just need to learn from matches like this."
The Horned Frogs will now get set to host the Conference USA Shootout next weekend on February 22-23 at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center in Fort Worth, Texas. The matches will feature TCU versus No. 66 Charlotte and No. 29 South Florida versus No. 38 Tulane on Friday. On Saturday, the winners and losers from the previous day's matches will square off.
