No. 35 TCU falls to No. 68 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 5-2
Feb. 11, 2007 FORT WORTH, Texas - The 35th-ranked TCU men's tennis team fell to No. 68 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 5-2 on Sunday at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. The loss drops the Frogs to 1-2 on the season, while improving the Islanders to 1-2. The match marked the first time Texas A&M-Corpus Christi has defeated the Frogs in five meetings.
The Frogs got off on the right foot with the doubles duo of Chris Biro and Caleb Bulls defeating Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's tandem of Farras and Zunino, 8-5, to even doubles play at one point each. Trailing in the tiebreaker 4-1, the duo of Cosmin Cotet and Kriegler Brink fought back to upset the No. 40 tandem of Andrey Kumantsov and Mikhail Pavlov, 9-8(6), and clinched the doubles point for TCU.
Senior Andrew Ulrich highlighted singles play for the Frogs, routing Jaume Farras in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. Chris Biro and Cosmin Cotet also had impressive showings for TCU. Biro fell short against No. 25 Andrey Kumantsov 7-5, 7-5, while Cotet came up just short, 6-0, 0-6, 6-4, playing in the No. 1 slot against Raul Morant-Rivas.
The men will return to the court on Feb. 27, when they travel to Baton Rouge, La., to face LSU at 2 p.m.
