TCU Men's Tennis Defeats UTA 6-1

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU men's tennis team defeated the UTA Mavericks in Arlington Wednesday 6-1. The Frogs lost the doubles point, losing all three doubles matches, but sweeping the singles.
In doubles, Rafael Abreu and Jacob Martin battled it out with Nathan McGregor and Sandy Farquharson of UTA, losing the match 9-8 (5). The team of Jacopo Tezza and Toni Gordon also dropped their match against David Corrie and Niels Buksik 8-5. In the final doubles match, Fabrizio Sestini and Jacob Martin gave in to Javier Carrillo and Alon Goldshuv 8-6.
The Frogs fared better in the singles category, sweeping all six matches. In the No. one spot, Gordon def. McGregor 7-6 (5), 6-4 and at No. two, Sestini def. Corrie 6-4, 6-3. Freshman Rafael Abreu improved his singles record to 7-0 after defeating Buksik in a long match ending in final score of 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (5). Tezza def. Carrillo 6-4, 6-1 at the No. four spot, and at the No. five spot Daniel Scholten def. Farquharson 7-6 (5), 6-1. Finally, Jacob Martin def. Ian Vazquez 6-3, 6-4 in the No. six spot.
This is the third straight win for the Frogs this spring. TCU will host the TCU Shootout this weekend, Feb. 1-2. The Frogs will be hosting Arizona State, Pepperdine and Washington at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center beginning at 1:30 p.m. both days.
