TCU Swimming Teams Sweep Louisville, Saint Louis
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Nov. 10) - The TCU men's and women's swimming and diving teams took to the road to face two future Conference USA opponents and came away with four dual meet victories in Friday's three-school contest. With a pair of wins, the men moved to 4-1 on the season, while the women jumped to 4-2. The women dominated Saint Louis by a final score of 69-34, taking first place head-to-head in every event against the Billikens. Even more, the women finished first and second in 11 of the 12 events against the Saint Louis. The margin of victory could have been even larger, as after jumping out to an incredible 69-10 lead, the Horned Frogs termed the final four events "exhibition" races, and did not add points to their score. Against Louisville, TCU claimed first place in 10 of the 12 events en route to a 71-33 drubbing of the Cardinals. The Horned Frogs bolted out to a 63-16 advantage, before swimming exhibition races in the last three events. Individually, junior Jamie MacCurdy won each of her three events (six total victories), winning the 200 freestyle in 1:55.83, the 200 backstroke in 2:07.14 and the 400 freestyle relay in 3:41.67. TCU was equally impressive on the men's side, taking first in all but one event against Saint Louis in a 62-36 win. TCU by 48 points before swimming exhibitions in the final four contests. The Frogs won eight of the 12 events head-to-head against Lousville in a 64-48 victory. Once again, the Frogs swam the final two races as exhibitions after taking a 64-33 lead through 10 events. Junior Josh Pipes took top honors in his three competitions, earning a total of six victories in the process. Pipes was on the winning 400 medley relay team (3:30.82), placed first in the 1000 freestyle (9:41.77) and also claimed the title in the 500 freestyle (4:46.94). After starting out the season 0-2, the Lady Frogs have recorded four straight wins. They defeated Delta State 105-33 and Louisiana-Monroe 90-49 last weekend. The men also have garnered four consecutive wins this season dating back to last week, when the team had a 92-47 win over Delta State and an 88-51 triumph over Louisiana-Monroe. Next up for TCU's teams is a three-team dual meet with Southwest Missouri State and Western Illinois in Springfield, Mo., on Saturday, November 18. MEN'S TEAM TOTALS: 1. TCU 64 1. TCU 62 2.
