FORT WORTH, Texas (June 18, 2001) -- TCU head men's and women's swimming coach Richard Sybesma has announced the signing of seven men's swimmers for the 2001-02 season. The signees include a trio of 2001 high school all-Americans, a Texas private high school state champion, a pair of Big 12 transfers and a junior college national champion.

Joe Covey (Spokane, Wash./West Valley), Craig Chapman (San Antonio, Texas/Robert E. Lee) and Scott McCure (Richardson, Texas/J.J. Pearce) all earned high school all-America honors for their performances in 2001. McCure capped his prep career with a second-place finish in the 200 IM at the Texas state high school championships.

Additionally, Jacob Taylor (Tyler, Texas/Grace Community School) closed out his senior season with a state championship at the Texas private high school state meet.

The Horned Frogs' newest class is rounded out by a trio of transfers. Aaron McLachlin (Arvada, Colo./Pomona) and Mitch Loper (Houston, Texas/Langham Creek) bring Big 12 experience from Nebraska and Kansas, respectively. Byron Coyle (Fort Pierce, Fla./South Iredell) captured the national junior college championship in the 1650 freestyle while at Indian River C.C., and also placed second nationally in the 500 free.

"We added both quality and quantity by signing this talented class," Coach Sybesma said. "It's not often that you can do both those things, so we are very pleased and excited about the potential these student-athletes possess."
