MacCurdy Wins WAC Swimmer of the Week Honors
School record holder has perfect weekend at TCU Classic FORT WORTH, Texas (January 15, 2000) - TCU junior Jamie MacCurdy has been named the Western Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Week after capping off a perfect weekend at the TCU Classic. MacCurdy's work helped the host Frogs easily beat the five-school field. In a span of two days, January 12-13, MacCurdy was on a roll, winning all six events that she entered to earn four individual titles and two relay crowns. The native of Plano, Texas, paced the field in the 200 individual medley, 400 individual medley, 200 freestyle and 200 backstroke events. She also swam leadoff for the victorious 400 and 800 freestyle relay teams. The school-record holder in the 200 IM (2:03.98), MacCurdy is also a member of the record-setting 400 medley relay squad (3:49.89). In December, she turned in a NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 4:21.39 in the 400 IM. To date, the multi-talented swimmer's times rank among the WAC's top-five season performances in the 500 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 200 IM and 400 IM. In addition, she has turned in conference top-10 times in the 100 and 200 backstroke. It is the second time that MacCurdy has won the honor in her TCU career. She also was the WAC Swimmer of the Week in December of 1999. This season, MacCurdy joins fellow Frog Jamie Robinson, who was awarded by the conference on December 6. |
