TCU Women's and Men's Swimming & Diving in First Place After Day One
Frogs swimmers lap field in Day One of TCU Classic
FORT WORTH, Texas (January 12, 2000) -- The Horned Frog women's and men's swimming and diving teams staked themselves out to healthy leads after the first day of competition at the annual TCU Classic swim meet at the Rickel Center in Fort Worth. The TCU women currently have 182 points, which outdistances them from their four competitors: New Mexico State (146), Houston (129), Louisiana-Monroe (116) and North Texas (100). The Frog men lead their lone opponent, Louisiana-Monroe, by a score of 188-138. TCU's women completed a sweep of the relay events, winning the 400 medley relay in 3:57.92, the 800 freestyle relay in 7:55.74 and the 200 medley relay in 1:49.47. Individually, junior Jamie MacCurdy won the 400 individual medley in 4:32.75 and the 200 freestyle in 1:54.12. Junior Marisa Schenke took honors in the 100 backstroke (:58.66) and freshman Jamie Robinson won the 100 breaststroke (1:07.69). The men also swept the three relay events with times of 3:28.39 in the 400 medley, 7:02.64 in the 800 free and 1:35.74 in the 200 medley. In the individual heats, sophomore Clint Barghi won the 400 individual medley (4:07.69), sophomore Jeff Parkinson was victorious in the 50 freestyle (:21.69) and junior Josh Pipes touched the wall first in the 100 butterfly (:51.68). In addition, sophomore Aaron Ewert finished first in the 100 backstroke (:51.49) and Scott Adkins was crowned the champion in the 100 breaststroke (:58.31). The TCU Classic concludes tomorrow with eight events. Competition begins at 1:00 p.m. at the Rickel Center and will run throughout the afternoon. Admission to the meet is free. |
