Swimming Collects a Pair of Victories at Southwest Missouri State

Jan. 11, 2003

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.- TCU's men's and women's swimming and diving squads each earned hard-fought road victories on Saturday afternoon, as both teams knocked off Southwest Missouri State at SMS's Hammons Student Center. The Lady Frogs defeated the Lady Bears 78-62 for their eighth-straight victory, while the TCU men earned a 72-68 come-from-behind win over SMS.

Highlighting the TCU women's (8-1) triumph was the 200 medley relay squad of Kate Swearingen (Cary, N.C./Athens Drive), Leann Cathcart (Henderson, N.C.//Longview), Tiffany Strawn (Katy, Texas/James E. Taylor) and Erin Irons (Midland, Texas/Midland), which set a Hammons Center pool record by winning the event in 1:50.21.

The men's squad (6-4) had to win the final event of the meet, the 200 free relay, to secure the Horned Frog sweep. The team of David Tietze (Tulsa, Okla./Jenks), Dana Kizer (League City, Texas/Clear Creek), Aaron Ewert (Dallas, Texas/Garland) and Jeff Parkinson (Aurora, Colo./Smoky Hill) did just that, taking the race in 1:24.83 and cementing the TCU victory.

The Lady Frogs are in action again on Wednesday night versus Metroplex-rival North Texas at 7 p.m. The entire squad returns to the pool Friday at 6 p.m. when the Frogs compete at Louisiana-Monroe.
