TCU alumnus and legendary sports writer Dan Jenkins will be inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in May 2012, the organization announced Wednesday. Jenkins will become only the sixth media member ever to receive the honor.

Jenkins, who was selected in the lifetime achievement category, will be joined in the class by four acclaimed professional golfers in Phil Mickelson, Sandy Lyle, Peter Alliss and Hollis Stacy. The ceremony will take place May 7, 2012 at World Golf Village in St. Augustine, Fla., and will be held in conjunction with THE PLAYERS 2012 Championship.

Jenkins has compiled a lengthy, award-winning résumé as a sports journalist, writing for such outlets as Sports Illustrated, Golf Digest, the Fort Worth Press and the Dallas Times Herald. The Fort Worth native also has authored 18 books, seven of which have been best sellers and three three of which have been turned into movies, including "Dead Solid Perfect," "Semi-Tough" and Baja Oklahoma."

A seven-time recipient of the "Best Story of the Year Award" from the Golf Writers Association of America and six-time "Best Story of the Year Award" winner by the Texas Sportswriters Association, Jenkins was a recipient of the PGA of America's Lifetime Achievement Award in Journalism in 2005. The Golf Writers Association of America bestowed upon him their William Richardson Award for outstanding contributions to golf in 2005.

The hall of fame announcement is not a unique one for Jenkins, who also has been enshrined by the following organizations: the TCU Lettermen's Association Hall of Fame, Texas Golf Hall of Fame, and the National Sportscasters and Sports Writers Hall of Fame.

Jenkins received a degree from TCU in journalism in 1953 after captaining the golf team from 1951 through 1953.
