FORT WORTH, Texas -- Robert Rice, a standout prep golfer at the Wichita Collegiate School, has signed a national letter of intent to play golf for the sixth-rated Horned Frogs, TCU head coach Bill Montigel announced today. Rice is the top ranked Kansas junior golfer on the Junior Golf Scoreboard and is currently ranked No. 287 nationally among junior golfers in the Sagarin rankings.

Rice, who will enroll at TCU in the fall of 2003, finished 10th nationally at The 2002 Independent Insurance Agents Junior Classic, also known as "The Big I," in Houston. He is a member of this year's Kansas Cup Team, Kansas Golf Association Preview Series Team and is a Jim McLean Future Collegians World Tour All-American.

"We're excited to sign a golfer who has as much promise as Robert does," Montigel said. "I really like his enthusiasm about coming to TCU. If Robert continues to work hard on his game, he can really help us in the future."

Rice's grandfather, R.E. Dodson, was a football letterman at TCU from 1958-60. Dodson was on the Southwest Conference Championship teams in 1958 and 1959.
