TCU moves up four spots on second day of Carpet Capital
Nov. 5, 2005 ROCKY FACE, Ga. - The TCU men's golf team moved up four spots into 13th place after posting a 2-over-par 290 on Saturday at the Carpet Capital Collegiate at The Farm Golf Club. TCU was 17 strokes better on day two, as four of the five golfers posted better numbers than they had in round one. Top-ranked Georgia is tied with No. 17 Georgia State for first place among the 18-team field. Both squads have 36-hole sums of 597 (+21). TCU owns a 21-over score of 597 through 36 holes. The tournament contains 12 teams rated among the top 25 in the nation according to the GCAA/Bridgestone Coaches' Poll, including four of college golf's top five squads. Senior Drew Laning carded the Frogs' first under-par score of the tournament, as he fired a 1-under 71. He jumped up 28 spots in the individual standings into a tie for 38th at 149 (+5). He is looking to be TCU's top finisher for the fourth consecutive tournament. Also bidding for top honors are a pair of true freshmen. Jon McLean, who is tied for 26th place, registered an even-par 72 in round two and is eyeing his second straight top-20 finish. Meanwhile, Robby Ormand is tied for 38th place with Laning. He logged a 5-over 77 on Saturday and now owns a 5-over 149. TCU sophomore Franklin Corpening was nine shots better over the tournament's second 18 holes. His 73 (+1) advanced him into a tie for 74th at 155 (+11). Freshman Jesse Speirs also was much improved, as he shot a 2-over 74. Speirs shares 79th position with a 156 (+12).
