Ormand paces Frogs on day one of Carpet Capital Collegiate
Nov. 4, 2005 ROCKY FACE, Ga. - TCU freshman Robby Ormand carded an even-par 72 to lead the Horned Frog men's golf team on the first day of play at the Carpet Capital Collegiate in Rocky Face, Ga. As a team, the Frogs are in 17th place among the 18-team field after a 19-over score of 307. The field contains 12 teams rated among the top 25 in the nation according to the GCAA/Bridgestone Coaches' Poll, including four of college golf's top five squads. With a 6-under 282, No. 5 Florida is the clubhouse leader at the 54-hole tournament by two strokes over 17th-rated Georgia State. Second-ranked Georgia Tech is just two shots ahead of TCU. Ormand resides in a tie for 14th place after opening the event by matching his career-best effort. The Austin, Texas, native is appearing in only his third career tournament. He had three birdies and three bogeys on the day. Fellow freshman Jon McLean registered a 3-over 75 in the first round. The Florida product birdied two of his final three holes to finish with a share of 38th place. Drew Laning, a senior who has topped the team in three consecutive tournaments, carded a 78 (+6) to tie for 66th position. TCU sophomore Franklin Corpening and freshman Jesse Speirs each shot rounds of 80 on Friday. They share 86th place among the 90 competitors.
