Two Horned Frogs tie for ninth at the Ridges
Oct. 15, 2006 JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. - For the first time in seven years, the TCU men's golf team finished outside the top three at the annual Ridges Intercollegiate in Jonesborough, Tenn. Led by ninth-place finishers Drew Stoltz and Jon McLean, the Horned Frogs, ranked 25th nationally in the GCAA/Bridgestone Coaches Poll, placed 11th among the 15 teams. TCU (893, +29) began the day tied for fourth place, but posted a 13-over 301 to slip down the standings. Tennessee won the tournament with a three-round 869 (+5), clipping tournament host East Tennessee State by one stroke. TCU finished just two strokes out of eighth. Stoltz, a senior from Fort Collins. Colo., earned his fourth career top-10 finish and his second straight. He recorded a round of 75 on Sunday to complete the event with a 219 (+3). McLean, who is ranked among college golf's top 50 players, picked up his third top-10 in four events this season. The sophomore opened the tournament with rounds of 70 and 77, then finished with a 77. Junior Franklin Corpening, who recorded his first career win earlier this month, tied for 42nd place. He posted a three-round 226 (+10). Sophomore Jesse Speirs fired a team-best final-round 71 (-1) to move up six spots in the standings into a share of 67th place.
