Former TCU Golfer Stevens Reaches Final 16 at U.S. Mid-Amateur

Oct. 6, 2004

Former TCU men's golfer Charlie Stevens reached the Sweet 16 at the 2004 U.S. Mid-Amateur Championships at Sea Island Golf Course in St. Simons Island, Ga. After following up a strong performance in the stroke play portion of the event with a pair of match play victories, Stevens dropped a 3 and 1 decision on Wednesday afternoon.

Originally a walk-on at Oklahoma, Stevens turned into a valuable find for TCU head coach Bill Montigel. The native of Wichita, Kan., proved to be the leader of the Frog squad that placed third at the Southwest Conference Championships and competed at the 1992 NCAA Championships.

Stevens was the only TCU individual who made the cut at the 1992 NCAAs. After 69s in the first two rounds, Stevens held on to share 10th place at three-under and gain honorable mention status.
