Frog Golfers Move Up Into Tie For Eighth
Oct. 4, 2003 DALTON, Ga. - The TCU men's golf team leaped up into a tie for eighth at the Carpet Capital Collegiate following a two-under-par 286 in the second round. The Horned Frogs, who began the day in a share of 14th, were 18 strokes better as a team on day two at The Farm Golf Club in Dalton, Ga. TCU was one of eight squads to shoot better than par on Saturday. Clemson (568) continues to lead the 18-team field and is followed closely by Florida (572) and Georgia (573). The Horned Frogs have a score of 590 over the first two rounds. With a four-under 68 on Saturday, sophomore Colby Beckstrom moved up from 44th place into a tie for 20th at 144. Beckstrom had seven birdies in his round, giving him a team-high 11 over the first two days of the event. He is in search of his second straight top-20 finish of the season after opening the year with a fifth-place effort at the Ridges. Junior J.J. Killeen continues to rank highest among the Horned Frog contingent, as he sits in a share of 13th place with a two-round total of 143 (-1). Killeen, who tied for 18th at the Ridges in September, continued his steady play by firing a one-under 71 in round two. Senior Adam Meyer made the largest move for the Frogs after his one-under 71. He began the day in 72nd place, but heads into the final round in a tie for 47th. Birdies on three of the first four holes paved the way for Meyer. Meanwhile, junior David Schultz has a share of 62nd place. He sports a 36-hole score of 153 after a 76 (+4) on Saturday. Redshirt freshman Drew Stoltz, playing in just his second college tournament, posted his second straight 81 and is tied for the 85th spot with a 162 (+18).
