Men's Golf Makes Largest Climb in Coaches Poll
Sept. 25, 2003 NORMAN, Okla. - Following an impressive second-place showing at the season-opening Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at the Ridges, the TCU Horned Frogs made the biggest jump in the Precept Coaches Poll, moving from 14th in the preseason ratings to seventh in the Sept. 24 poll. TCU had four individuals -- Colby Beckstrom (5th), David Schultz (T-9th), Adam Meyer (T-15th) and J.J. Killeen (T-18th) -- place among the tourney's top 20 individuals. The only team who topped the Frogs at the Ridges was Florida, who received 12 of 28 first-place votes this week to move into the top spot in the coaches poll. The shift ended Clemson's streak of eight consecutive rankings at No. 1. The Gators accumulated 667 points to the Tigers' 646. Clemson tallied 11 first-place votes. The five remaining first-place votes went to third-ranked UCLA and No. 4 Oklahoma State - who received two each - and fifth-ranked Arizona State. Texas fell from fifth to sixth while TCU scooted into seventh. Georgia moved up two spots to eighth. Wake Forest and UNLV dropped from sixth and seventh, respectively, into a tie for ninth. TCU is next in action Oct. 3-5 at The Farm in Dalton, Ga. However, TCU golf fans can follow a pair of former Horned Frog golfers in the PGA Tour's Valero Texas Open, beginning Sept. 25. J.J. Henry, a 1998 alum is currently 90th on the money list, while Fort Worth native and 2003 graduate Adam Rubinson is playing in his first event as a professional.
