TCU 20th in Golfweek Preseason Rankings
Aug. 26, 2012
The TCU men's golf team has been rated 20th in Golfweek's 2012-13 preseason list of the nation's top men's college squads.
TCU returns four golfers from the five-man lineup that qualified for last season's NCAA Championship, the 15th appearance in head coach Bill Montigel's 24 seasons at the helm of the Horned Frogs. Leading the group is sophomore All-American Julien Brun, who broke nearly all of the program's single-season records last season on his way to finishing runner-up at the national championship tournament.
Joining Brun is senior Daniel Jennevret, who served as the Frogs' third man for most of last season. Jennevret is coming off a solid summer showing on the international circuit that featured a top-medalist finish at the British Amateur. Another senior, Eli Cole, returns to the lineup following a one-year absence due to injury. Cole was a member of the Frogs' 2010 NCAA Championship team prior to suffering a leg injury that cost him his entire 2011-12 campaign.
Other TCU returnees include junior Ian Phillips and sophomore Thomas Mantovanini, both of whom filled out last season's NCAA fivesome. The Frogs also expect big things out of incoming freshman Paul Barjon, a French national from New Caledonia who arrives in Fort Worth sporting a top-100 world amateur ranking.
TCU tees off a brief 2012 fall schedule next week in Monterey, Calif., when it plays in the match-play-style Carmel Cup at Pebble Beach Golf Links and Bayonet Golf Club. The Frogs' only other fall competition will be at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational in Windmere, Fla., Oct. 21 through 23.
