De Beer Named All-America Scholar

FORT WORTH--Former TCU men's golfer Johan de Beer was named a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar on Thursday. It marked the second consecutive year that de Beer earned the honor.
In order to be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status, individuals must meet the following requirements:
1. Own at least junior academic standing 2. Competed in at least two full years at the collegiate level 3. Participate in 70 percent or more of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships 4. Record a stroke average under 76.0 5. Maintain a minimum cu¬mulative grade-point average of 3.2 6. Be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university
De Beer was among a group of 146 NCAA Division I golfers who met the award's criteria for this past season. He recently concluded his Horned Frog career as the only four-time all-conference golfer in TCU program history. Highly accomplished in the classroom, de Beer was also a four-time Academic All-Mountain West honoree.
As a group, the men's golf team ranks as one of TCU's most successful programs in the classroom, having combined for a 3.14 grade-point average during the 2011-12 fall and spring semesters. Nine of the 15 student-athletes on the roster compiled at least a 3.0 GPA, including de Beer, who exceeded a 3.5.
