NORMAN, Okla. - Three members of the TCU men's golf team - senior Adam Meyer, junior David Schultz and sophomore Colby Beckstrom - were voted to the PING All-South Central Region Team, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) has announced. TCU, rated 10th in the nation, placed more golfers on the squad than any other school in the region, taking three of the 15 spots.
Meyer, who hails from China Spring, Texas, has appeared in all 12 tournaments for TCU this season and owns a team-best and career-best 71.81 scoring average. The Conference USA medalist was named C-USA Golfer of the Year and also was honored as TCU's Co-Male Athlete of the Year for 2003-04. He is currently rated 24th in the nation according to the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings. On the year, he had one victory and eight more finishes among the top 20.
Schultz, who earned honorable mention All-American accolades last year, has competed in 11 events on the year, carrying a scoring average of 73.06. For the second consecutive season, the Fargo, N.D., native was named to the Conference USA first team. He is ranked 72nd among college individuals after recording three top-10 and one top-20 finish on the year.
Beckstrom, a standout from North Muskegon, Mich., has posted a career-best 72.83 stroke average in 12 events for the Horned Frogs. He was a first team All-Conference USA performer in 2004 and is rated 65th nationally. He claimed his first career victory in the fall, winning the Prestige at PGA West, and added two more top-10s and four top-20s on the year.
Members of the All-South Central Team, as well as those golfers on the eight other regional squads, are now eligible for PING All-America honors, which will be announced in conjunction with this week's NCAA Championships. A total of 135 golfers nationwide were selected as all-region picks, with 15 student-athletes being named to each of the nine squads.
The Horned Frogs will complete the season this week at the 2004 NCAA Championships. The tournament is being held June 1-4 at The Homestead in Hot Springs, Va. TCU, paired with No. 1 Florida and No. 22 BYU, will tee off beginning at 1:30 p.m. (ET)/12:30 p.m. (CT) on Tuesday. Live scoring of the event can be accessed on www.golfstat.com.
