Horned Frog golfers 17 strokes better on day two
May 18, 2007
SUGAR GROVE, Ill. - Despite improving their team score by 17 strokes in the second round, the TCU Horned Frogs remained in 25th place at the NCAA Central Regional at Rich Harvest Farms (par 72, 7,214 yards). Only the top 10 teams and top two individuals on non-qualifying schools will advance to the NCAA Championships.
After a 315 (+27) on Friday, the Frogs have a two-round sum of 647 (+71). Tulsa, who was paired with TCU, fired an incredible 8-under 280 to move into the team lead at 585 (+9). It was a much better scoring day for the entire 27-team field, as warmer weather and less wind greeted the players at the course 60 miles southwest of Chicago.
True freshman Travis Woolf posted the Frogs' best round of the tournament thus far, a 1-over 73. He had four birdies on the day, including a tap-in on the last hole. The Fort Worth native bounced back from a tough first day, as he improved his score by 14 strokes.
Another Frog player who made a big improvement was Drew Stoltz (76, +4), who was 10 shots better on day two. The senior was 1-under through the first seven holes after opening with a terrific par scramble and following that up with a solid birdie on the second hole.
The Horned Frogs will play their final round Saturday beginning at 12:59 p.m. (CT). Live scoring of the tournament will be available on www.Golfstat.com.
