Horned Frogs Stand Atop Leaderboard At Hall of Fame Invitational
March 18, 2005 FORT WORTH, Texas - No. 9 TCU played outstanding team golf on Friday morning to jump out to the first-round lead at the Hall of Fame Invitational at Redstone Golf Club in Humble, Texas. The Horned Frogs shot a three-under score of 285 to take a two-stroke lead over UNLV (287) through 18 of the tournament's 54 holes. Each of TCU's six players (five team members and one individual) recorded rounds between 70 (-2) and 74 (+2). Three of the Horned Frogs are currently among the top 10 among the 106 participants. Seniors J.J. Killeen and David Schultz are tied for third place individually after two-under scores of 70. Both players logged three-birdie and one-bogey rounds. Killeen is eyeing his third consecutive top-10 finish, while Schultz is gunning for his fourth top-20 placement of the 2004-05 season. Kyle Reifers of Wake Forest enjoyed the best round of the day, a six-under 66. In addition, TCU junior Colby Beckstrom owns a share of 10th place after a 71 (-1) to open the three-day tournament. Beckstrom registered a team-high four birdies over his 18 holes. True freshman James Sacheck, who is playing as an individual and therefore does not count toward the team total, is one stroke behind Beckstrom and is tied for 12th. He parred 16 of the 18 holes during his even-par round. True freshman Franklin Corpening and sophomore Drew Stoltz share 28th position after two-over scores of 72. Corpening played the first 10 holes at two-under before closing with four bogeys, while Stoltz was plus-three through six holes before settling in and playing one-under the rest of the way. The tournament features nine teams in the top 25 according to the GCAA/Bridgestone Coaches Poll. The ranked teams in the field include: No. 1 Oklahoma State, No. 4 New Mexico, No. 6 Wake Forest, No. 9 TCU, No. 11 Texas, No. 15 UNLV, No. 20 Minnesota, No. 21 Arizona and No. 22 Kentucky.
