LAS VEGAS, Nev.--The TCU men's golf team continues its spring season this weekend, as it travels to Las Vegas for the annual Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters at Southern Highlands Golf Club.
The tournament will feature a format of 54-hole stroke play Friday through Sunday with the low four scores counted each round for the team total. Team and individual ties will be broken by sudden death playoff and 18-hole rounds will be played each of the three days. The Horned Frogs will start things off with a practice round Thursday morning at Southern Highlands, which is a par-72 course that will play a length of 7,510 yards this week.
TCU will be making in its third tournament appearance of the spring. The squad opened the year with a seventh-place finish at last month's Amer Ari Inviational in Waikoloa, Hawaii, prior to finishing ninth at the John Hayt Collegiate two weeks ago in Ponte Vedre, Fla. The Frogs are currently ranked 43rd in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin national rankings.
This weekend's lineup will be the third different grouping utilized by TCU this spring. Johan de Beer, Tom Hoge and Pontus Gad each will be playing in their third straight tournaments, while Scott Roudebush, who led the squad last time out at the John Hayt Collegiate, also will return to the mix. Daniel Jennevret, who last played at the Amer Ari Invitational, joins the lineup this weekend.
Another strong national field awaits the Frogs in Las Vegas. Including TCU, each of the 15 squads competing are ranked among the nation's top-73 squads: No. 1 Oklahoma State, No. 3 UCLA, No. 4 Georgia Tech, No. 7 Texas, No. 11 Texas A&M, No. 13 Georgia, No. 14 Texas Tech, No. 20 California, No. 21 Duke, No. 27 USC, No. 29 Arizona State, No. 54 Baylor, No. 56 UNLV and No. 73 Arizona,
The Frogs will be playing at the Southern Highlands Collegiate for the second straight season. Last spring, TCU finished in eighth place and was led by de Beer, who placed fifth with at six-over par.
Following this week's tournament, TCU will continue its spring campaign at next week's Desert Shootout, March 17-19 in Goodyear, Ariz.
