Men's Golf In Sixth After Round One in Vegas
March 7, 2003 LAS VEGAS, Nev. (Mar. 7, 2003) - The TCU men's golf team, rated third in both the Golfweek rankings and the Precept Coaches' Poll, sits in sixth place among a prestigious 15-team field following the first round of the Toyota Las Vegas Collegiate. The Horned Frogs shot a team total of 286 (-2) and are five strokes behind tourney leader Texas (281). Adam Rubinson led TCU with a three-under score of 69. He currently sits in a share of fourth place, four strokes behind individual leader Kevin Kisner of Georgia (65). With a score of 33, Rubinson was the lone Frog to play the par-36 front nine under par. So far, the senior has placed in the field's top 20 in five of the six events this season. Sophomore J.J. Killeen carded a two-under 70 in his first tourney appearance of the spring season. He is tied for 10th position on the leaderboard thanks to a round that featured six birdies, a figured that matched Rubinson for the most by a Frog on day one. Stephen Polanski, a junior, had an opening round of 73 (+1), which is good for a share of 33rd place. Polanski was six-over through 12 holes, but finished up with birdies on five of the last six holes. Fellow junior Adam Meyer, who was the tournament medalist in the Frogs' previous spring outing, is tied for 41st place after notching a 74 (+2). True freshman Drew Pigg, playing in his first tournament since October, posted a score of 87. The 15-team field consists of 13 schools rated in the nation's top 25.
